Verifying means proving to Google that you really run the business. Until you do, customers cannot find your profile, and your edits do not show.

What you'll need

  • The Google Account you used to create the profile

  • Your phone (for video verification you must record on a phone or tablet)

  • Access to the business phone, email, or mailbox shown on the profile

  • For video: your sign, tools, or work van, plus a key, register, or business document

Step 1: Open your profile and click Get verified

  1. Sign in to your Google Account.

  2. On a computer: search Google for my business or your business name and city. On a phone: open the Google Maps app and tap Business at the bottom right.

  3. Select Get verified. You will see the methods Google offers you.

Step 2: Follow the steps for your method

Phone or text. Select Phone or SMS. Answer the call or open the text, then type the code into your profile. Google says automated phone menus (IVR) will not get the code, so make sure a person or a phone that gets texts can receive it.

Email. Select Email, then follow the steps in the email Google sends.

Video recording (phone or tablet only).

  1. On your phone, go to your Business Profile and tap Get verified.

  2. If asked, enter your phone number and tap Next.

  3. Tap Business video, then Next. Read the requirements.

  4. Allow access to your camera, microphone, and location if asked.

  5. Tap Next, then Start recording. Record in one take, with no breaks, for at least 30 seconds.

  6. Review the video. Tap Try again to redo it, or Upload video.

What to film depends on your business type:

Location

Storefront or hybridStreet signs, building numbers, nearby businesses

Service-area businessStreet signs or landmarks near your business address. Home-based? Film signs in your neighborhood.

Business is real

Storefront or hybridYour sign, with the same name as your profile

Service-area businessYour tools, equipment, business cards, or branded clothing

You run it

Storefront or hybridOpen the register, kitchen, storage room, or point-of-sale system

Service-area businessDo a service, unlock your branded van, or show a permit, invoice, or utility bill in the business name

Google says the video must not show bank, tax, or ID numbers, private info, or other people's faces. It must be recorded live, not filmed earlier and uploaded later.

Live video call. Select Live video call, then Next, choose your language, and select Start call. A support person joins and asks you to show your location, equipment, and proof you manage the business. These calls only happen during your business hours.

Postcard. Select Postcard, check your mailing address, and request the code. While you wait:

  • Do not change your business name, address, or category. The code will stop working.

  • Do not request a new code. That cancels the one in the mail.

  • Enter the 5-digit code when it arrives. Codes expire after 30 days.

Step 3: Wait for Google's review

Google says reviews take up to 5 business days, and rarely longer. You get an email when you are verified. If you see Get verified again later, Google could not fully verify you. Try again, or try another method if one is shown.

Common mistakes

  • Filming a sign that does not match your profile name. The names must match.

  • Editing your profile while waiting for a postcard. It breaks the code.

  • Making a new profile when verification gets hard. That creates a duplicate. Keep working with the one you have.

  • Sharing your code. Google will never ask you for it.

Once you are verified, the next step is choosing the right setup. Read Storefront, service area, or hybrid?

Google changes Business Profile screens often. We checked these steps in October 2026. If a button looks different, the Google help pages below have the latest.

Questions people ask

Can I pick which verification method I get?

No. Google says verification methods are chosen automatically based on your business type, public info, region, and hours, and cannot be changed. Try the ones you are offered.

How long does verification take?

After you finish the steps, Google says its review takes up to 5 business days, and rarely longer. Postcard codes usually arrive within 14 days.

My video was rejected. What now?

Tap Review issues on your profile, read what was missing, and record a new video that shows everything from the first one plus the missing parts.

Will someone from Google call and ask for my code?

Google says it will never ask for your verification code. Do not share it with anyone, even people who help manage your profile.

We will look at the site you already have and email what to fix first.
