Your description shows in the "From the business" section of your profile. It is your chance to tell people, in your own words, what you do.
What you'll need
What you do, in one sentence
What makes you different (something true and specific)
How long you have been open
The areas you serve or what to expect when booking
What should I write?
Try this simple order:
Here is the shape of one (fill in your own true details):
Use everyday words your customers use. If people say "AC repair," write "AC repair," not "climate system remediation."
How to add or edit your description
Open your profile. On a computer, search Google for my business. In the Google Maps app, tap Business at the bottom right.
Select Edit profile.
Next to "Description," select Edit.
Type or paste your description.
Select Save.
Using Google's AI suggestion
Where it is available, Google can write a draft for you based on your profile and website.
Go to Edit profile, then Edit next to "Description."
Click Suggest description. (Or type a rough draft first, then click it to improve your draft.)
Click Try again for a new version, or Use to keep it.
Edit anything that is not true, then Save.
Google says this feature is only in some regions and languages, you must be 18 or older, and you should check it for accuracy.
What happened to Q&A?
The "Questions and answers" section is going away. Google turned off its Q&A API on November 3, 2025. In December 2025, a Google product specialist announced in the Business Profile help forum that customers will instead ask questions in Google Maps and get an instant answer "based on your answers and relevant reviews." Existing questions can still be answered from your Business Profile. Since Google's answers lean on what your profile already says, a clear, complete description matters more than ever.
Common mistakes
Adding a link or phone number. Links are not allowed. Your phone and website have their own fields.
Writing a sale ad. Google's example of what is not allowed: "Everything on sale, -50%."
Keyword stuffing. A list of city names reads like spam to people and to Google.
Saving AI text without reading it. It can get facts wrong.

Google changes Business Profile screens often. We checked these steps in October 2026. If a button looks different, the Google help pages below have the latest.
Questions people ask
How long can my description be?
Google says do not go over 750 characters. That is about 120 words.
Can I put my website link in the description?
No. Google says no links of any type are allowed in the description. Your website goes in its own field.
Should I use Google's AI Suggest description button?
You can, where it is offered. Google says the AI text should be checked for accuracy and edited as needed. Read it carefully before saving.
What happened to the Questions and answers section?
Google stopped letting anyone post new Q&A questions in late 2025 and is moving to an AI-powered Ask feature in Google Maps that answers from your business info and reviews. A complete profile helps those answers.
We will look at the site you already have and email what to fix first.
