Replying shows customers you are listening. People reading your reviews notice how you handle the hard ones.

What you'll need

  • A verified Business Profile (you cannot reply before verifying)

  • The Google Account that manages your profile (owner or manager)

  • A few calm minutes, especially for negative reviews

How to reply to a review

  1. Open your profile. On a computer, search Google for my business. In the Google Maps app, tap Business at the bottom right.

  2. Select Read reviews.

  3. Next to the review, select Reply.

  4. Type your reply.

  5. Select Reply to send it.

Google reviews your reply against its content policies. It usually takes up to 10 minutes, but can take up to 30 days. If it is not approved, Google asks you to edit it.

To edit or delete a reply: select Read reviews, then Edit under your reply. Change it and select Update, or select Delete.

Google's own tips for replies:

  • Be polite and professional. Never share private info or attack the person.

  • Be honest. Own mistakes. Explain what you cannot control, kindly.

  • Apologize when it fits. It can rebuild trust.

  • Use their name and mention their point. Sign with your name or initials.

  • Offer to talk privately by phone or email if it is complicated.

  • Reply soon.

For happy reviews, Google suggests skipping the same copy-paste "thank you" for everyone. Mention something specific. And do not use replies to push deals.

Should I reply or report?

To report a review:

  1. Select Read reviews.

  2. Next to the review, select Report.

  3. Choose a reason, like "Spam" or "Profanity."

  4. Select Send report.

Google says this usually takes several days. You can check the status in Google's Reviews Management Tool. If Google finds no violation, you can send a one-time appeal from that same tool.

Common mistakes

  • Arguing in public. Future customers read it.

  • Sharing the customer's details, like their order, address, or health info.

  • Reporting every bad review. Google only removes ones that break policy.

  • Offering something in exchange for changing a review. Google prohibits incentives to change or remove reviews.

Questions people ask

Will my personal name show on my reply?

No. Google says approved replies appear as your business, and your personal name is not shown.

Can I get a bad review removed?

Only if it breaks Google's policies, like spam or offensive content. Google says not to report a review just because you disagree with it.

Does the customer see my reply?

Yes. Google notifies the reviewer when you reply. They can still change their review afterward.

Can I reply from my phone?

Yes. Open the Google Maps app, tap Business, and go to your reviews. The steps are the same idea as on a computer.

We will look at the site you already have and email what to fix first.
